      Uses your Claude login that Claude Code already saved. Asks Anthropic for your usage every few minutes, and right after an agent finishes. One call every 30 seconds for the session list, so cloud sessions show up. Never refreshes your token, never signs you out, never makes a model call.

      For Codex

      No network. Codex writes its rate limits in local logs. Notchy reads the newest number every 15 seconds. Local only.

      Questions

      How do I see my Claude Code usage limit on Windows?

      Install Notchy and keep using Claude Code as usual; it reads the login already on your PC. The left ring in the notch is your Claude session limit, filling as you use it. Rest the pointer on it to see the session and weekly limits with their reset times, the same numbers /usage shows in the CLI. The right ring does the same for Codex.

      How is it different from a usage tray app?

      A tray icon shows numbers when you click it. Notchy stays in view at the top of the screen and also shows your agents: the busiest session, how many more are running, and an amber notch the moment one needs permission. You can work in another window and still know when to go back.

      Is my Claude account at risk?

      Notchy makes the same usage call the CLI makes for its own /usage screen, and reads the same session list the desktop app does, with the login already on your PC. Both are reads. It never refreshes the token, because that would rotate it and sign your CLI out, and it never spends your subscription on model calls. The endpoints are undocumented: if one changes, the notch shows an error or leaves cloud sessions out, never a wrong number.

      Which sessions show up?

      Every place you run an agent. Terminals wear the tool's mark: Claude Code, Codex. The desktop apps wear the company's: Claude, ChatGPT. Claude Code sessions running in Anthropic's cloud, started from the desktop app, the web or your phone, get the Claude mark with a small cloud, and say when they need your input. A terminal shared with /rc is listed once, as the terminal. The desktop and cloud sessions are one switch in Settings.

      Do I have to install hooks?

      No. Sessions are found by reading Claude and Codex session files. Hooks only add tool names and the instant a permission prompt appears. They are opt-in and removable.

      Does it slow my PC down?

      One 50 ms timer, a tab count at most once a second, a usage call every few minutes and after an agent finishes, one session-list call every 30 seconds, one log read every 15 seconds. No keyboard hook, and nothing paints while it is hidden.

      Does it work without Claude Code?

      Yes. Codex limits and sessions, terminal and desktop app, work on their own and need no network.

      Multiple monitors?

      Primary monitor only, for now. It is next.

      Web or Microsoft Store?

      Same app, same price. The web copy is paid through Polar and unlocks with a license key that works on up to three PCs. The Store copy is tied to your Microsoft account and starts with a 7-day free trial, so you can try it before you pay. They are separate purchases: a web key does not unlock the Store copy, or the other way round. Install one, not both, or you get two notches.

      How do updates work?

      The Store copy updates itself through the Store. The web copy checks this site once a day and tells you in Settings and the tray when a new version is out; download it from your Polar portal and run it over the old one. Your settings and key stay. Every 1.x update is free either way.
